Last wednesday I obediently showed up for Chemistry class. If I could have come up with an excuse good enough to convince myself, I would have skipped. Unfortunately no. I didn't learn a thing about chemistry that period (ok maybe one). Mostly I spent the time pondering on paper..this was the result:

Simple hands, plain and unadorned
ink stains cut across the fingers
where a careless pen has brushed

short jagged nails, clean and unadorned
callused and cut, show evidence of hard work
stubby broad fingers lie scared beneathe them

But, what's lacking in grace - made up in skill
hands trained to caress
hands taught to speak and sing

simple hands. plain and unadorned
their beauty masked in ordinary
for these hands were taught to pray.

To the great confusion of my roommate the first hours of having a blog I didn't jump right in and post. Instead I goofed around "making pretty letters" as she put it. Now granted, the appearance of the blog is mostly just to make me happy but it got me thinking, how much effort and concentration do I put into making "pretty words" as well? I can spend hours making something sound clever or vague enough to satisfymy reader but really the important thing is that the words say something and that their meaning is worth saying. There's enough fluff floating around already.

I have finally given in to the temptation and add one more item to my list of distractions. Elikia, a Lingala word meaning hope has always been one of my favorites.Where the Lord will take this I have no clue.
